Timbuktu in January - before the Islamists Came in
I spent the month of January in Mali - over a week of that in and around Timbuktu - which is now run over by Islamists. The New York Times is now reporting it is pegged to be the next Al Quaeda Haven. Saints tombs have been demolished, Men and women are forced to marry if caught together, people have been whipped for drinking beer and smoking, soccer is not allowed, nor is TV.
