Yesterday, Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, proved you can be a Republican and be sane, not be cowed by the religious right (who make up 2% of this country but due to great soundbites and a lazy media get way more press than they are owed), and be a HUMAN.
Bloomberg announced that he would donate $250,000 out of his own pocket to make up for funds that Planned Parenthood lost when the crazies at Susan G. Komen pulled their funding for spurious reasons (due to an “investigation” in Congress by one House Rep from Florida, where incidentally, SGK’s founder Nancy Brinker is from). I say spurious as, SGK still gives funds to Penn State and Bank of America - also under investigation for far more worthy reasons (pedophile scandal/stealing from American people) than PP. Not only that, but Bloomberg has offered to match all donationsto Planned Parenthood as well.
In his statement, Bloomberg said:
“Politics have no place in health care. Breast cancer screening saves lives and hundreds of thousands of women rely on Planned Parenthood for access to care. We should be helping women access that care, not placing barriers in their way.”
And just in case people are still confused about Planned Parenthood does:
Planned Parenthood, the largest reproductive and sexual health service provider in the US, provides screenings for cervical, breast cancer, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/Aids. It is also widely known to help women access abortions and contraception.
I love you, Mayor Bloomberg.

Hoda Kotb and Andrea Mitchell at the Susan G Komen gala in DC… wonder how they feel about the charity now that its pulled its Planned Parenthood funding? Also there - Robin Roberts, Laura Ingraham (Well, we know how she’d feel…)
The pressure on the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation to reverse its decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screenings for poor people — a decision which has caused an uproar among women’s groups and on social media — is about to get significantly more intense. Nearly two dozen Senators are set to enter the fray.
22 Dem Senators have signed on to a toughly worded letter urging Komen to reverse its decision, which Komen has justified by citing a new rule prohibiting it from funding any group under investigation by the government. (This has conferred legitimacy and signficance on the probe into Planned Parenthood that has been launched by anti-abortion GOP Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida.)
That’s a significant number of Senators for a letter of this nature, and it makes it more likely that this fight will escalate in a huge way, if Republican Senators begin speaking out in defense of the decision, as David Vitter has. More signatories are likely.
Raising the stakes, the letter — which was spearheaded by Senator Frank Lautenberg — explicitly raises the possibility of “thousands” of women losing access to “potentially life-saving screenings because of a politically motivated attack.

I highly doubt that Susan G. Komen would approve of Nancy’s move to pull all funding from Planned Parenthood over spurious claims that it is being investigated by Congress.
1. It is always being investigated by Congress, due to well-funded, right-wing anti-abortion activists.
2. The funding allowed for poor women to get free breast exams. Serving the population that most needs it.
3. At this rate,. the only people who will be able to take advantage of the Susan G. Komen foundation are the wealthy women who contribute to it and attend it’s fabulous galas.
Brinker issued a non denial denial, saying:
Brinker responded to those critics on Wednesday night, saying the charity would “never bow to political pressure.”
“The scurrilous accusations being hurled at this organization are profoundly hurtful to so many of us who have put our heart, soul, and lives into this organization,” she said. “But more importantly, they are a dangerous distraction from the work that still remains to be done in ridding the world of breast cancer.”
Brinker’s true color has shown through, and it ain’t pink.
Brinker has said she wouldn’t bring politics into the casue but according to the Daily Kos:
Brinker, a longtime GOP donor who was ambassador to Hungary under then-President George W. Bush, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama in 2009. She has cast Komen as above politics, saying its focus is women’s health.
But the decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood comes shortly after Komen unveiled a new partnership that strengthens its ties to the George W. Bush Institute. The institute is the policy-making arm of Bush’s presidential library, which is scheduled to open in Dallas next year.
Komen’s new Senior Vice President of Public Policy, Karen Handel, not only has a long anti-choice history, but pledged to eliminate grants for Planned Parenthood to provide breast and cervical cancer screenings when she ran for governor of Georgia in 2010.
Please sign this petition asking the Susan G. Komen foundation to reconsider.
Or just give your $ to Planned Parenthood directly or to

So a pal of mine went to a CFDA party last night at 101 Central Park West (14th floor) - and realized she was in Harrison Ford’s apartment. He’s loaning it out for parties as a way to engender interest because he’s apparently trying to sell it (next step: a NYT spread ala Wendi Murdoch, when she was trying to dump her Soho Pad or a feature in Vanity Fair ala Cornelia Guest, who still cant unload Templeton).
Harrison wants $20 million - any takers? (It’s a steal - in April he wanted $25 mill).
Here’s a peek:

Yes, I know, there are five hundred, but these are the first five that come to my mind…

Daniel Tosh of Tosh 2.0: Proving that once again, just because something is popular with drunk frat guys on the interwebs - doesn’t mean it’s a good idea for TV. Watching Tosh 2.0 is like eating regurgitated cat vomit.

Bethenny Frankel: The painful looking plastic surgery alone should be enough, but the annoyance of the woman who takes “telling it like it is” to a whole ‘nother narcissitic level can’t be underestimated. Many articles have been written about her Machiavellian machinations to get ahead and her half truths ($100 million for a skinny girl margarita anyone?) - and it just seems like there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do to stay on air. Including eat her young.

Chris Harrison - the host of ABC’s “The Bachelor” just seems like one of those guys that bros in Hollywood think women like but we don’t (because we secretly suspect he really hates us all).

Nancy Grace - nothing like getting your news from a woman with full on crazy eyes who’s pumped full of weird, screaming self-righteousness.

Ed Shultz: Because if I wanted to be screamed at for nonsense while getting a face full of spittle, I would have stayed at the New York Post.
Runners up include: Nene Leakes (I mean - enough already with the Atlanta Mean Girl shtick. PLease, go back to the gutter form whence you came),

It seems more people read my tumblr/twitter than I thought. After I posted about the ever-disappearing Shep Smith (My fave anchor not just on Fox News), he told the Daily News:
One on-air impression in recent months is that Smith has dropped a lot of weight.
“I’ve lost too much,” he says.
After years of eating cheeseburgers, Snickers bars and having a generally horrible diet, Smith was told by his doctor that he had sky-high cholesterol and high blood pressure. He’s since cut out the junk and plays tennis three times a week. “I’m in the best shape of my life,” he says, adding that his last medical report was great.
Phew!
